Counties take ownership of Performance Monitoring for Action data

County governments are key consumers of the Performance Monitoring for Action (PMA) data, and a strong evidence system as this is critical to increasing the use of data and evidence in decision-making. ICRH Kenya collaborated with county teams and partners to disseminate the data in eight counties.
ICRH Kenya examined the data and compared it to routine health statistics. As a result, the teams were able to analyse the impact of their interventions, undertake a gap analysis and review, and revise the action plan for their family planning (FP) programs. Some of them called for more family planning financing in county budgets, stronger medical-legal coordination to assist gender-based violence case reporting, and a revision of strategic documents to include data-driven family planning activities.
In Kitui County, the Health Minister made the announcement to take the lead in lobbying for supplementary budget allocation for family planning. All the counties expressed their plan to include these activities in their annual strategic plans.
“From the data shared today, we realize that the county needs to allocate a budget for the purchase of commodities to address stock-out challenges.” Health Minister – Kitui County
